Little Black Dress Initiative 2021 is about to kick off!
The Junior League of Louisville (JLL) is executing its third Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI). The LBDI is a social media driven awareness and fundraising campaign. Advocates will wear the same black dress or attire with an “Ask Me About My Dress” button for 5 consecutive working days. In celebration of our Centennial Year, advocates will share details on the impact the JLL has had in the Louisville community for the past 100 years. We will also share statistics on the challenges impacting homeless youth in our community to raise awareness and stimulate discussion on this important issue.
The funds raised make possible the work and mission of the Junior League of Louisville, which includes promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our community focus is on impacting youth experiencing homelessness regarding their needs in the areas of housing, safety, social and emotional wellbeing, education, and employment. We are grateful to be serving our deserving partners, and ancillary organizations they support. Your unrestricted donor gifts will be well utilized to help us execute their goals and our strategic plan. Some of these projects include:
- Mentoring and celebration events for local displaced youth including the development and execution of a Life Skills curriculum for Boys and Girls Haven and Saint Vincent de Paul.
- TrueUp has asked us to reinvigorate the Love Notes program, focusing on teaching at-risk youth about healthy relationship development.
- We have also been engaged to assist the Coalition Supporting Young Adults (via Coalition for the Homeless and YouthBuild) on various projects to re-engage opportunity youth into our community before they reach age 24.
In addition to supporting our community projects, funds raised will also be invested in the civic leadership development of our members by sponsoring women to attend leadership conferences and training events in 2021. All donations are fully tax-deductible. These funds will increase our capacity to both effects lasting community change and maintain the legacy of impact JLL has made over the past 100 years.
