In 1927 the Junior League of Louisville begin its long history of support for the Kosair Crippled Children’s Hospital.  Construction on the new hospital located on Eastern Parkway, where the JLL Office was located only a few years ago, was completed in 1926 and served children from around the state of Kentucky.  In 1929 the Junior League created an endowment fund with $10,000 to provide two hospital beds for the newly completed girl’s ward and to provide yearly maintenance for four others.  In subsequent years the League provided an additional $20,000 to the fund to continue its support and purchase of additional beds and supplies.  The Junior League also was instrumental in creating three occupational therapy programs one at Kosair, Baptist, and Norton by providing funds for the Occupational Therapist salary.  Because of the League’s support Kosair Crippled Children’s Hospital was one of the 1st Orthopedic Hospitals to inaugurate an Occupational Therapy Program.  The League’s Sewing Committee made clothing for the children as well as hospital supplies for staff.
